F9 V-Bank Filters: Same Filtration Grade, Half the Energy Cost

Airtech

The Airtech V-Bank does the same job as a standard pocket filter (F9 fine particle filtration) but uses roughly half the fan energy. Lower electricity costs, quieter AHU operation, and longer intervals between filter changes. ABS plastic frame is fully incinerable, a requirement in pharmaceutical facilities. We hold both full-size and half-size formats in stock at our Silverton warehouse. Call with your AHU frame size and we will confirm availability.

The Airtech F9 V-Bank filter is a high-efficiency, low-energy alternative to traditional pocket bag filters. Built on a compact mini-pleat design with a large media surface area packed into a V-shaped configuration, it delivers F9 filtration at roughly half the airflow resistance of a conventional pocket filter. The result is lower fan energy consumption, longer service intervals, and quieter AHU operation. The ABS plastic frame is 100% incinerable, a hard requirement in pharmaceutical GMP environments where used filters cannot go to landfill.

Why V-Bank over Pocket Filters?

A standard F9 pocket filter presents approximately 225 Pa of resistance at 3 400 m³/h. The Airtech V-Bank at the same airflow presents 110 Pa, roughly half. That differential translates directly to lower fan power draw across the entire service life of the filter. In installations with multiple filter positions across large AHU banks, the energy savings compound.

The extended media area also means the V-Bank holds more dust before reaching its final pressure drop of 400–450 Pa. Because the V-Bank starts at a much lower initial resistance (110 Pa vs 225 Pa for a pocket filter), it takes significantly longer to reach that replacement threshold, giving you more filter life from every unit. Fewer replacements per year means lower labour and consumable costs for maintenance teams.

For facilities specifying secondary filtration before a terminal HEPA stage, the V-Bank reduces the load on the HEPA filter by presenting cleaner air at lower pressure, extending the HEPA service life as well. And for any facility that requires G4 pre-filtration upstream, the standard G4 panel filter at the first stage protects the V-Bank from coarse loading and is a required part of the filtration system design.

F9 V-Bank filters are specified wherever high-efficiency secondary filtration is required with minimal impact on fan energy. Their compact depth, low resistance, and incinerable frame make them suitable across a range of demanding commercial and industrial HVAC applications.

Pharmaceutical facilities

The ABS frame is fully incinerable, meeting GMP waste disposal requirements. V-Bank sits at the secondary stage before terminal HEPA, extending the HEPA service life by presenting pre-cleaned air at low pressure.

Data centres

F9 filtration at low energy cost. The V-Bank's reduced resistance directly lowers power consumption in energy-sensitive data centre environments where AHU fans run continuously at high duty.

Hospitals and healthcare

Secondary-stage filtration in hospital AHU systems protecting downstream terminal HEPA filters from fine particle loading. Lower resistance means quieter, more efficient air handling in patient-sensitive environments.

Large commercial HVAC

Shopping centres, airports, and large office buildings with high filter counts benefit from fewer replacements per year and lower maintenance costs compared to equivalent pocket bag filter installations.

Cleanroom secondary stage

Provides fine particle filtration before HEPA with less load on the AHU fan than a pocket filter at the same grade. Compatible with cleanroom filter banks requiring compact depth at secondary stage.

AHU upgrades and retrofits

Existing AHUs running pocket filters can be upgraded to V-Bank for immediate fan energy reduction. Both full-size (592×592mm) and half-size (592×287mm) formats cover the most common secondary-stage cell dimensions.

What is a V-Bank filter and how does it differ from a pocket filter?

A V-Bank filter uses a compact mini-pleat media folded into a V-shaped pack inside a rigid frame, giving a much larger media surface area than a pocket bag filter. This larger area means the filter offers significantly lower resistance to airflow at the same F9 filtration grade: 110 Pa vs 225 Pa for a standard pocket filter at 3 400 m³/h.

What is the energy saving of a V-Bank compared to a pocket filter?

At the same airflow rate and filtration grade (F9), a V-Bank filter presents roughly half the resistance of a conventional pocket bag filter. Lower resistance means the AHU fan consumes less energy to push air through the system. In installations with many filter positions, this can translate to measurable electricity savings over the filter service life.

How often should V-Bank filters be replaced?

Replace when the differential pressure across the filter reaches 400–450 Pa. In typical commercial or pharmaceutical HVAC applications this is every 12–18 months, compared to 6–12 months for a pocket filter at the same grade. The extended service life is a direct result of the lower initial resistance and larger media area.

Can V-Bank filters replace pocket filters in existing AHUs?

In most cases, yes. The Airtech 592×592×292mm V-Bank is designed to fit standard AHU secondary-stage filter banks. Verify the cell depth is at least 292 mm and that the face dimensions match. Our full-size (592×592mm) and half-size (592×287mm) formats cover the most common AHU configurations. Call us with your AHU model and frame dimensions to confirm compatibility.

Do you deliver V-Bank filters nationwide?

Yes, delivery is available nationwide across South Africa. Free delivery on all orders. We hold both full-size and half-size V-Bank filters in stock at our Silverton, Pretoria warehouse. Same/next-day despatch for orders placed before midday.

What certification do your V-Bank filters have?

Tested and classified to EN779:2012 F9 grade. Average efficiency of 95% or higher at 0.4 µm. The ABS plastic frame is 100% incinerable, meeting GMP waste disposal requirements for pharmaceutical and healthcare facilities. Test certificates available on request.
