Roll Media vs Finished Panel Filters
Standard G4 panel filters are supplied as rigid framed units in fixed dimensions. They are the correct choice for AHUs with standard filter frames. Roll media fills a different requirement: when the frame dimensions are non-standard, when a custom filter housing is being built, or when the application requires a large-area intake pre-filter that would be uneconomical to assemble from multiple small panels.
G3 roll media is one grade coarser than G4. Its function is coarse pre-filtration, removing large dust particles, textile fibres, insects, and general airborne debris before the air stream reaches downstream filtration stages or equipment. It is not a substitute for G4 or higher efficiency grades in AHU applications where EN779 compliance is required at G4 or above.

EN779 G3 Grade Explained
EN779 is the European standard for general ventilation air filters. Filters are classified by efficiency grade from G1 to G4 (coarse) and F5 to F9 (fine). G3 is the second-highest coarse grade, providing average arrestance of ≥80% for the synthetic dust test aerosol. It is suitable for applications where large particle and debris exclusion is required, but high efficiency fine filtration is handled by downstream stages.
EN779 has been superseded by ISO 16890 for new installations. Consult your mechanical engineer for current project specification requirements.
G3 synthetic filter media in roll form is used wherever standard panel filter sizes do not apply, or where the volume, area, or economics of the application make roll media the more practical choice. The following are the most common applications.
